Mary
Poppins was easily the best show I directed in Highland. The cast was
superb, the sets were nice, my Mom did a great job with the costumes... all
in all a highly successful show! It was also a scary show, because we just
pirated the entire production from the Walt Disney film. We never knew when
the "cease and desist" order might be coming (hey, admission was
free, so what the heck). I copied the script directly from the DVD, and
created the score by cutting and pasting copies of a song book to create
one unending piece of music, complete with dance-breaks, vamps, and an
overture. We had to score two songs, "The Life I Lead" and
"Fidelity Fiduciary Bank" completely from scratch. It was a lot
of work, but I've never felt so creatively involved in a project- it really
got the juices flowing. All in all a highly satisfying endeavor! (Disney’s
finally staged the show themselves now, and I understand that one’s pretty
good as well).

More Jolly
Holiday - The Button Guy is the amazingly versatile Matt Courtright- he
had us in stitches as the Bank President. My Mom made every single
costume in this picture (and many more besides!).
