My second show for Highland was "You're a Good Man,
Charlie Brown". I was really happy with this one; it's still one of my
favorites. I am a fan of the early, edgier Charles Schulz 'Peanuts' strips,
and I was able to take a few, uh... "liberties" with the script,
incorporating a few of my early favorites. Kudos to my production designer
Kelly Skurka and costume designer Mary Beth Cooley (no relation ;-D). The
kids were just great! They were off book early and soaked up the
instructions like little sponges. We had a horrible storm brewing one
night, and they really rolled with the punches as I started cutting on the
fly to get the show to the end before the deluge hit. We made it by the
skin of our teeth, and it's one of my favorite theater anecdotes. I'd like
to work with kids again. it's been quite a while.
